My hip improves

Today Pete took a little video of me walking. He wanted to show Marc how my hip is doing. I'm doing all right for an old guy, after all, I am a teenager! I'm fourteen years old, you'd expect me to have a bit of a gentlemanly limp. I only wish he wasn't filming the whole walk. It's very hard to pee when you're being watched.

Hi everyone. It's cooled down a lot in Melbourne. We had a few rain-soaked, high-humidity days followed by some hot and dry sunny days. So we've had some ups and downs but today is the middle stratum of weather: overcast and cool. Lovely weather for peeing and pooing in the street.

After doing my business, I like to watch my owner pick it up. He thinks he's the one in control but who, pray tell, is picking up my poo? I'm certainly not going to pick up his... not that I've ever seen him poo in the street, mind you. Hmmm, he must poo and a completely different block, perhaps on his way to the shops.

I noticed another bike in the garage the other day. Not too shabby.

My left hip has been giving me some trouble over the past couple of days so we've just been taking it easy and doing 'half-walks' through the laneway and back. I try and eat all the rotten apricots but Pete pulls at my collar before I can get near them. I need to find a way to distract him.

I'm trying to look all deep and pensive, when really I'm just trying to figure out how to get that apricot in my mouth.

This is me waiting for Pete to take the stupid photograph. I just wanted to pee, geez!

I'm usually in pretty good spirits after the walk: it's feeding time!

This is a very exciting and tense moment for me: just prior to the giant food storage bucket being opened.

When I get home from a walk, the first thing I do is pace around in circles licking my lips.

Geez! Pete, can't even focus on my handsome - and might I add, lustrous and fluffy - face.

Hot in the city, this evening

Geez it's a hot one in Melbourne today. 34 degrees. Days like today I wish I didn't have such a thick, lustrous coat. Still, it does work wonders for the lady-dogs. Not, that I saw any today.

This is me, licking my lips - I knew I was about to get food. That silly human is so predictable.

My afternoon walk today consisted of sniffing out the presence of previous dogs and trying to stay in the shade. It's not too hot in my garage but outside: woah Nelly! Another hot one (34) is predicted for tomorrow. I think I'll just rest for most of the day and try not to do anything. Pretty typical day for me really. Ahhh, it's a dog's life.

You can just make out a bee that was flying past.

My morning walk

Woof, woof everybody. Pete took me for a walk this morning and he brought along this girl. They were holding hands, I don't know what she sees in the guy. I have a much shinier coat than he, I was rubbing up against her so that she would notice, but she just looked suspicious. Whatever.
Geez, he's so embarrassing.

After the walk, I noticed Pete reach for the Smackos bag, at which point I began to approach Wacko status. Unfortunately, the idiot started to break the Smackos up into little pieces and throw them around the garage. I hope he had fun. I had to go around sniffing for them just to get my freaking snack. It was highly embarrassing and immediately snuffed out my Wacko.

Mmm, I just found a Smacko
I'm concerned Pete has OCD... or dementia. He's been keeping a feeding and walking schedule on the fridge.  I gather the schedule is to make sure I am walked and fed twice a day, no more, no less. I think he is trying to make sure that Em and Pete don't double up on feeding me. Damn it! I need to figure out how to acquire and use whiteout.

My schedule

My first blog entry

Hi all,

My name is Champ and I'm a dog. My owners - Marc and Lahlee - have gone away for a month and I thought I'd create a kind of 'reverse blog'. It's usually the travelers that update a blog and the poor suckers at home that follow the blog. However, I'm such a super-awesome dog that I thought Marc would like to know how I'm going even when he is the one on holiday. So without further ado (not a bad vocabulary for a dog.. eh? ... eh?) I shall 'get into it', as I'm told the young people are want to say nowadays.
A scent of long ago caught my attention in this gutter.

It's 5pm in the afternoon and I've just come back from my second walk of the day. I relieved myself, but of course. My temporary... I'm reluctant to use the word 'owner'... my temporary food-and-walk-provider is OK. He smells a bit funny, but then he is a human.

I met another dog on my walk today. I was a bit startled but it was fun to meet him, after the initial shock. Turns out that poor fellow also has a bit of a limp. I gave him a sniff and I was back on my way.
This is how much food Pete feds me, twice a day.
This is how much food that translates to in my actual bowl.

Upon my return I had my second meal for the day... the same as usual: 1/3 a bowl of dry food. I certainly perk up when my food-and-walk-provider opens that giant food container. I'm still working out how I might be able to prise it open, in spite of my lack of opposable thumbs.
I asked Pete to take this photo of me. What a crap photographer he is, he can't even get rid of the flash-induced green eye effect. Sheesh, I might just eat him soon.

That's it for now. Marc and Lahlee, I hope you're both having a swell time over there in Argentina. I've a second cousin German Shepherd over there - Buen Perro I think is name. If you see him, say 'woof' from me (or is it 'buenos woof'?).

love, Champ
